Moxy Thoughts

It’s early October and as fall harvest begins so does tailgating season.  We love to have friends and family over to hang out and relax this time of year.  The adults tend to watch the afternoon games and the kids come in an out, munching on snacks and then heading back out.  We love that they are still enjoying the last warm days of the season.  Being the type of host that just can’t stand it when people are hungry at the house, I always love to have some easy and healthy snacks around that everyone loves.

One of my favorite ways to do a tailgating spread is just to load up on a bunch of fresh vegetables and fruit and then create some delicious dips.  When we created our Moxy Spice Mixes, we realized that the seasonings were not just flavorful but also flexible!  That’s why all of the dips we make on tailgating days take no more than 3-4 ingredients and require zero time cooking, just mix the ingredients together and you’re ready to serve.

We start with a base, like Greek Yogurt or Lite Sour Cream, Plain Hummus, Nut pastes and Refried beans and then add a Moxy Kitchen Spice Mix.  Of course, you could make your own hummus or beans so you can control all the ingredients in your dips, but I just get them at the grocery store and look for the ones with the least amount of salt, sugar and preservatives.

When I put together a tray of dips, I’m usually looking for a variety of flavors and textures on the table.  I like to have the following, but of course you should create recipes from whatever appeals to you and your family the most.

Hummus -these are great paired with tortillas, pretzel or pita chips.

Dairy based  – sour cream or Greek yogurt.  Match these with any vegetables you like, cauliflower, broccoli and carrots are usual crowd pleasers.  Snap pea pods and cherry tomatoes are also fun and add some color to the dish

Veggie based – used the Pico de Gallo from your local deli and add a fresh avocado for an incredibly fresh new take on gaucomole

Nut pastes – I like using walnut butter, but you could also try cashew or almond butter.  These add a ton of protein and weight to your dip, making them both filling and healthy!

Give our dips and seasonings a try and let me know how you make them your own!  I’d love to get some new ideas for our weekend snacks.  We’ve put together a new Moxy Kitchen Taster Box that has either 3 of our seasonings that make it easy to be ready for any game day.
