Quick sugar free applesauce
Moxy Thoughts
Recently, my amazing neighbor and I were working on creating desserts without the use of any sugar and one idea we had was to make fresh applesauce to replace sugars. We were amazed at how easy it was to not only create this sauce, but it was so delicious that it was eaten up by the spoonful by our kids. We ran out almost immediately after the sauce was finished! I now keep a batch of this in the refrigerator at all times and am starting to experiment with all the different apple types available in the grocery store. This version is made with Honeycrisp, which is a deliciously sweet apple, and as it’s name suggests, has a nice crispiness to it as well. That crispy bit is diminished when you peel away the skin, but the sweetness is preserved. That is why I really love this apple for this delicious and simple sauce. I hope you’ll play around with this recipe and send us your tips!
Ingredients
- 2 lbs. Honey crisp apples, peeled and roughly chopped
- 1 tsp. sea salt
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 2 tsp. cinnamon, to taste
- 1 cup water
- Juice from 1 lemon
Directions
- Combine all ingredients in medium sauce pan over medium heat and bring to boil.
- Lower heat to low, and simmer stirring often, covered for 30 minutes, or until apples easily mash with a spoon
- Cool and serve!
